The government of Fathi Bashagha, designated by the House of Representatives, welcomed on Saturday the U.N. Security Council Resolution 2656.
Bashagha’s government, which is rival to the international recognized Government of National Unity led by Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, stated that the Security Council resolution adopted on Friday “will help Libyans hold presidential and parliamentary elections under a unified government capable of enforcing its authority on all Libyan soil”.
The Sirte-based government also stated the solution to the country’s crisis “must be purely Libyan, and with national ownership that respects the sovereignty, independence and unity of Libya”.
