UN envoy to Libya Abdoulaye Bathily said he met on Tuesday with the outgoing Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh.
The meeting came “as part of my engagement with Libyan leaders to find a solution for the political stalemate,” according to Bathily.
The two parties’ discussion focused on recent political and security developments and the urgent need for the completion of the legal framework for elections followed by a comprehensive political agreement, UN envoy tweeted.
He emphasized that it is the responsibility of Libyan leaders to create conducive conditions for the holding of elections and ensure a level playing field as well as peaceful elections, under a unified government that is supported by major stakeholders.
