Reaching a consensual and comprehensive legislative framework for elections in Libya is the only path towards lasting peace, said Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
Holding elections as soon as possible is the guarantor of forming a legitimately elected government, Bourita stated during the ministerial meeting of the African Peace and Security Council meeting.
“I hope that the National Reconciliation Conference that the African Union and the Libyan Presidential Council intend to hold in Tripoli will be an opportunity to enhance consensus between the Libyan parties,” he pointed out.
The position of the Kingdom of Morocco on the Libyan issue remains firm and clear, based on providing all aspects of support so that Libya becomes a strong and democratic country, the Minister stressed.
Morocco considers Libya an essential partner in building the Maghreb space and achieving the aspirations of the Maghreb peoples for integration and development, according to Bourita.
“We continue efforts to bring the views of the Libyan parties closer, by receiving Libyan political actors and officials, as well as the UN envoy and envoys of countries and organizations in charge of the Libyan file,” he added.
