The European Union Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, announced via a post on his personal account on “X” that he had a productive meeting with Major General Saddam Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces in the Libyan National Army.
Both parties expressed their desire to strengthen their partnership, building on the collaborative efforts between the EU and Libya in response to the Derna floods last September.
Orlando highlighted the review of the outcomes of the EU technical mission on migration and border management held yesterday in Benghazi. He emphasized the importance of exploring cooperation opportunities in several sectors, including combating human trafficking, rescuing migrants in the Libyan desert and along its coasts, and enhancing the capabilities of law enforcement agencies.
The ambassador expressed his satisfaction with Major General Saddam Khalifa’s support in removing obstacles faced by some NGOs engaged in demining activities, allowing them to continue their work in eastern Libya.
Khalifa’s efforts in combating illegal migration and maintaining security were underscored during the discussions, demonstrating his commitment to these crucial issues.
