The European Union expressed its concern today over the violence perpetrated by security forces in Tripoli against dozens of migrants who have been camping outside the center of U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) since October.
For the past two months, hundreds of migrants, including women and children, have gathered in front of the organization’s premises to demand their immediate evacuation from Libya and resettlement in a third country.
“We are very concerned by the current situation outside UNHCR, endangering the lives of many and preventing UNHCR from doing its job providing humanitarian assistance for most vulnerable,” tweeted the Head of the EU Mission in Libya, Sabadell Jose, on Wednesday.
“We ask Libyan authorities to ensure security and to protect people and premises,” he added.
