Toukra – A tragic drowning incident occurred Wednesday, in the Bou-Traba area east of Toukra. A citizen and his young son lost their lives.
Sources reported that Ibrahim Al-Qatrani drowned in the area. His 16-year-old son, Muhammad, passed away shortly after in the same incident. The young man had tried to intervene or approach under circumstances that remain unclear.
Teams of local residents rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the report to save them. Witness accounts indicated the rescue attempts failed due to strong currents or delayed arrival. The two bodies were recovered and transferred to authorities for necessary legal and medical procedures.
Hatem Belhaj Ali, spokesperson for the Eastern Region Marine Rescue Department, provided further details. He stated that rescue teams handled five drowning cases at Bou-Traba beach involving members of the same family. These incidents occurred despite repeated warnings regarding dangerous sea conditions during these days.
He added that rescue teams successfully saved four people. Their health condition is currently stable. However, a fifth person named Muhammad Ibrahim Milad, a resident of Al-Abyar, died. His body was transferred to Al-Marj Hospital.
He noted that competent authorities continue to warn citizens against swimming during rough sea conditions and high-risk currents. He called for adherence to safety instructions to preserve lives.
This incident renews calls for caution in unmonitored water areas, especially with rising drowning cases during holidays and peak seasons.
