In a high-level meeting held in the city of Murzuq, the Libyan government appointed by the House of Representatives has outlined a comprehensive plan to support the reconstruction and reconciliation efforts in the region. Prime Minister Osama Hamad, accompanied by the Director General of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund Belqasim Haftar, and the Head of the Stability and Reconstruction Committee, convened with local officials, elders, and dignitaries to discuss the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by Murzuq in recent years.
“Our meeting today is an integral part of the diligent steps taken by the Libyan government through the Fund and the Committee towards implementing development and stability plans across Libya,” Prime Minister Hamad stated during the meeting. The Prime Minister acknowledged the “difficult circumstances” that Murzuq has endured and emphasized the government’s determination to work closely with the local community to rebuild and rehabilitate the city.
The government’s comprehensive plan includes a focus on the safe return of displaced residents of Murzuq while ensuring the preservation of legal and judicial rights for all parties. Efforts will be made to overcome obstacles and resolve issues to expedite the return of the population in the shortest possible timeframes. The government has initiated the process of meeting the necessary requirements, including the repair of homes, utilities, and infrastructure in the destroyed neighborhoods, as well as the compensation of all affected individuals.
The Prime Minister commended the role of the local community, including the wise, intellectuals, and youth, and sought forgiveness, reconciliation, and unity. The government views the reunification, tolerance, and reconciliation happening in Murzuq as a genuine national reconciliation, which will be recorded by history. The Prime Minister expressed confidence in the Libyan people’s ability to reunite and heal their wounds without the interference of disruptors, stating that “the sons of one nation are capable of reuniting and healing their wounds by themselves.”
