Candidates for the presidential and parliamentary elections would be allowed to formally run in November, Libya’s High National Election Commission (HNEC) announced today.
Imad al-Sayeh, the commission’s chairman, told reporters that the door for nominations would be opened as soon as preparations are finalized.
Regarding the dispute over the electoral law, al-Sayeh said that “whoever has any objection to the articles of the election laws must go to the court.”
“We do not view the House of Representatives as a political party, but rather as the legislative authority, and we are obligated to implement the laws sent to us,” he said.
