Sabha – Sabha University hosted the 5th International Maghreb Conference. This event focused on Control Sciences, Technologies, and Computer Engineering. It took place at the Faculty of Languages amphitheater. A large academic and research audience attended. Participants came from various Libyan universities. Scientific institutions from abroad also participated. This reflects growing interest in scientific research. It also shows a commitment to technological development.
University President Masoud Mohammed Al-Raqeeq attended the opening ceremony. Several scientific affairs vice-presidents were also present. Academic leaders participated. These included Conference Chairman Hassan Saleh Al-Gaddafi. Amer Azrai was the Head of the Preparatory Committee. Adel Saad Mohammed was the Head of the Scientific Committee. Researchers and specialists in engineering and technology also attended. Their presence was notable.
The conference is jointly sponsored by Sabha University and Sfax University. It is organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Its official name is MI-SIA2026. This platform discusses emerging issues in automatic control. It also covers computer engineering fields. The conference reviews the latest research. It showcases technical applications.
The University President emphasized practical, implementable recommendations. These recommendations should support technological development in Libya. They should also enhance the role of academic institutions. This includes keeping pace with digital transformations. The Conference Chairman stated the event is a model for scientific integration. It fosters cooperation between research institutions. It provides opportunities for exchanging expertise. It builds sustainable scientific partnerships.
The Head of the Preparatory Committee noted a rapid global race. This race is towards acquiring modern knowledge and technologies. This necessitates increased focus on scientific research. Research should be directed to serve development needs. Such events support national competencies.
Over three days, the conference addresses five main themes. These themes include automatic control systems. Information technology is another theme. Computer engineering is also covered. Electronics and communication engineering are included. Electrical power systems are also a focus. Specialized scientific sessions discuss various research papers.
The Head of the Scientific Committee explained this is the fifth session. It is part of a series hosted by different Libyan universities. The conference is unique in Libya. It is organized by IEEE. IEEE is one of the largest global institutions for publishing scientific research.
A total of 377 scientific papers were submitted. 173 papers were accepted. This represents an acceptance rate of 48 percent. International speakers participated from several countries. They attended either directly or via remote communication. This was part of a comprehensive scientific program.
