Benghazi – The Libyan Government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation met a delegation. The meeting took place on Wednesday in Benghazi. The delegation was from the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Libya. It was headed by Chargé d’Affaires Roderico Atienza. They discussed ways to boost economic cooperation. They also discussed labor regulation between the two countries.
During the meeting, they reviewed the Libyan-Philippine relations. These relations span over five decades. They praised the role of the Filipino community. The community supports development and reconstruction efforts in Libya. Both sides addressed developing joint cooperation. They followed up on existing agreements. They explored building a future partnership. This partnership would be in economic and developmental fields. They also arranged for mutual visits in the coming phase.
The discussions also covered mechanisms for regulating the recruitment of Filipino workers to Libya. This would adhere to approved legal frameworks. These efforts aim to lift the ban on sending Filipino labor. They also discussed opening a Philippine Consulate General in Benghazi. This is important due to the increasing number of Filipino expatriates. Both sides affirmed the importance of continued coordination and consultation. This will enhance bilateral relations. It will also expand areas of joint cooperation. This serves the interests of both friendly peoples.
