Abdul-Bari Al-Faylog, an infamous Libyan Islamist fighter, died on Sunday at age 54, according to multiple reports.
Born in Tripoli in 1969, Al-Faylog joined the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), a designated terrorist organization, in 1995 and spent subsequent years between Pakistan and Afghanistan alongside members of Al-Qaeda.
He was place under watchlist by Libyan authorities until late 2003 when the regime of Muammar Gaddafi pardoned a number of Islamist figures after they claimed to have abandoned their extremist ideology.
Following the Libyan second civil war in 2014, Al-Faylog joined the Benghazi Shura Council to fight against the Libyan National Army (LNA). In 2015, he was wounded in a battle and travelled Turkey for treatment.
