The Libyan Foreign Ministry of the Government of National Unity (GNU) has expressed “dismay” over the decision of Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Dendias, not to visit the capital Tripoli during his trip to the country.
According to a statement by the ministry, Dendias was granted “approval” to visit Tripoli on Thursday morning after Greece requested the visit. His Libyan counterpart, Najla Mangouhs, was “waiting to receive him according to diplomatic norms”, the ministry said.
However, “in a surprising situation that calls for dismay”, the Greek minister “refused to get off his plane and returned to where he came from without any explanations,” the Libyan ministry claimed.
The ministry said it “deplores this behavior” and “will take appropriate diplomatic measures that preserve the prestige and sovereignty of the State of Libya.”
