The High National Election Commission (HNEC) has proposed to the House of Representatives the formation of a new joint House committee, which would be tasked with drafting electoral legislations for the upcoming elections in December.
The new committee’s scope of work is limited to drafting electoral legislations only and will not decide the constitutional basis, said HNEC chairman Imad al-Sayeh.
The committee’s members include members of the House Legal and Constitutional Committee, members of HNEC and electoral advisors of the U.N. Mission. It will start its work following Eid Al-Adha holiday (from July 19th to 23rd), according to al-Sayeh.
