The National Human Rights Committee in Libya has condemned the detention of Libyan football player, Mohamed Zubya, in Tripoli last Thursday. The committee denounced the arrest of Zubya “by security elements affiliated with the Stability Support Apparatus in the city of Tripoli, who took him to an unknown location and cut off contact with his family, according to preliminary information we received about the incident.”
The head of the organization, Mohamed Hamza, told The Libya Update, “We regretfully followed the incident of the arbitrary detention of Libyan football player Mohamed Zubya, without any legal basis for his detention, and we call on the parties behind his detention to work on releasing him unconditionally.”
“Libyan authorities must also work to put an end to arbitrary arrests and detentions outside the scope of the law, which constitute a flagrant violation of the rule of law and represent the worst forms of gross human rights violations,” added Hamza.
The Stability Support Apparatus, a non-state armed group led by Ghniwa Al-Kikli in Tripoli, had also detained actor Aseel Bhair days before releasing him yesterday without any details about the incident.
