Washington – The Ambulance Department in Washington announced two people were injured. The injuries occurred in a shooting near the White House. President Donald Trump was present at the time.
Agence France-Presse (AFP) journalists reported a heavy police and security presence. Officers deployed around the White House on Saturday evening. This followed reports of gunfire. President Trump was inside the White House at the time. He was discussing negotiations for an agreement with Iran.
Police forces surrounded the White House entrances. National Guard troops prevented journalists from entering the area. Journalists in the North Lawn at the time received orders. They were told to run to the White House press briefing room. This information was shared on X (formerly Twitter).
The Secret Service Director acknowledged reports of gunfire. The incident occurred near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, close to the White House. The FBI confirmed its support for the Secret Service’s response to the shooting.
Fox News reported that security forces “neutralized the shooter around the White House.”
This incident follows a similar shooting about a month prior. An American youth carried out that attack. It occurred during a White House Correspondents’ Dinner attended by Trump. This is not the first time Trump has faced targeting or shooting threats. He previously endured a series of threats and attacks. Such incidents have spanned recent years.
The recent incident recalled previous threats and targeting attempts. These date back to Trump’s first presidential campaign.
This series includes shootings by lone gunmen at his campaign rallies. It also includes repeated security breaches.
Trump survived two previous assassination attempts. Both occurred during his 2024 election campaign. These attempts revealed Secret Service shortcomings. This led to investigations and the dismissal of a senior official.
