Sirte – An official ceremony was held yesterday, Monday, at the Sirte Free Zone port to inaugurate the first new commercial shipping line for the Mediterranean Sea, as the first commercial vessel, named “IM,” arrived at the port.
The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of the Municipality, Mukhtar Al-Maadani, and a member of the Free Zone’s administrative committee, Ibrahim Idara, in addition to department directors and shipping line agents supervising the port.
The Director of the Office of Maritime Consultants at the Free Zone, Captain Mohammed Al-Naas, confirmed to the Libyan News Agency correspondent that the vessel that arrived is 125 meters long and 22 meters wide, and carries a number of containers, expressing his satisfaction with the port’s readiness to receive large commercial ships.
The ship’s captain and its crew praised the facilities available at the port, especially its entrance, the shipping lane, and the depth of the channel, which facilitates docking operations.
For his part, the Mayor of the Municipality congratulated the city’s residents on this achievement and thanked the General Command, the National Development Agency, and the Free Zone’s Board of Directors for the efforts made to prepare the port and receive the new shipping line. He affirmed the municipality’s continuous support for this vital project, for the benefit it brings to the region and its inhabitants.
