During a press conference marking the arrival of the first Turkish Airlines flight to Mitiga International Airport, Libyan Transport Minister Mohammed Al-Shhoubi welcomed this step after a hiatus of nearly 10 years.
Al-Shhoubi indicated that the landing of Turkish Airlines flights at Mitiga Airport represents a guarantee to all international institutions concerned with civil aviation and affirms the stability of the security situation in Libya and its commitment to implementing civil aviation safety and security standards.
He added that this step will encourage other airlines that may not have sufficient information about the security situation in Libya to resume their flights to the country.
The minister described Turkish Airlines as an appropriate partner in areas of cooperation, training, maintenance services, and investment activities in the Libyan civil aviation sector.
Al-Shhoubi also announced that the digital transformation project for the civil aviation sector is expected to be completed by mid-2024.
The return of Turkish Airlines flights to Libya comes after the signing of two memoranda of understanding between the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority and Turkish Airlines, in a step aimed at reviving air traffic and strengthening ties between the two countries.
