UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has stressed the importance of maintaining the focus on advancing the Libyan electoral process as a priority, overcoming legal and political challenges and determining realistic date for elections that were supposed to be held on December 24, 2021.
“In a meeting with presidential candidate and former Vice President of Presidency Council, Ahmed Maiteeg, Tuesday, Mission Coordinator and Officer-in-Charge of UNSMIL, Raisedon Zenenga, stressed the importance of maintaining the focus on advancing the electoral process as a priority, overcoming the legal and political challenges encountered and determining a realistic date for elections, to fulfill the expectations of the 2.8 million Libyans that have registered to vote,” UNSMIL tweeted.
“Zenenga also heard from Maiteeg on the recent meeting in Benghazi among key Libyan actors which focused on reconciliation and widening such dialogue, a positive and welcome initiative as part of efforts towards achieving a political settlement and establishing an atmosphere conducive to peaceful, inclusive, credible, free and fair elections,” UN Mission pointed out.
