U.S. diplomats, led by Ambassador Richard Norland, has met with Central Bank of Libya (CBL) Governor, Siddiq al-Kabir, to review progress toward a coordinated, transparent approach to funding reconstruction in Derna and other flood-affected areas, with technical support from international institutions, according to Norland.
“In this regard, we welcomed the release of the Libya Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment conducted by the World Bank, United Nations, and the European Union,” said Norland.
“We stressed the importance of the technocratic integrity and independence of the CBL and other Libyan sovereign institutions, and underscored the need for a unified, equitable, and transparent system for allocating public revenues for the benefit of the Libyan people throughout the country, such as the High Financial Committee formed last year,” the US diplomat pointed out.
