Al-Nawahi Al-Arbaa – The Al-Nawahi Al-Arbaa Security Directorate announced a full closure. This measure applies to the Wadi Al-Mujaynin Dam. Visitors are completely prohibited from entering it. This step aims to reduce recurring drowning incidents. It also seeks to protect public safety.
The decision followed five recorded drowning cases. The latest incident was the rescue of a family on Friday. The family consisted of a father, mother, and their daughter. Volunteer citizens helped with the rescue. Security services also participated. They were then transferred to Awata Rural Hospital. There they received first aid.
In this context, Mr. Devar, the Director of Dams Management, spoke to the Libyan News Agency. He stated that new measures are in place. These aim to protect lives and public facilities. They prohibit swimming near the dam lake. Approaching the stilling basin is also forbidden. Entering the control tower is prohibited. Access to the dam’s tunnel is also restricted. Buses are forbidden from crossing the dam’s body.
Devar noted these controls are not only for Wadi Al-Mujaynin Dam. They extend to several other dams in Libya. These include Al-Qattara Dam. Wadi Zaza Dam is also included. These measures aim to reduce frequent accidents.
Devar reiterated his call for urgent action. He appealed to competent authorities. Municipalities are specifically urged to intervene. They should secure the dam perimeters. This involves installing iron fences. Fences would prevent access to dangerous areas. He emphasized that awareness campaigns alone are insufficient. They cannot stop drowning incidents.
