Former Minister of Interior, Fathi Bashagha, extended his congratulations to the men and women of the police—officers, non-commissioned officers, and personnel—on the 61st anniversary of the founding of the Libyan Police, praising what he described as their honorable and sincere carrying of the banner of security and their embodiment of the highest meanings of discipline and dedication in serving the nation and safeguarding the security of its citizens.
Criticism of Exaggerating the Role of Armed Groups
In a Facebook post, Bashagha explained that recent years have proven that exaggerating the roles of armed groups has disrupted the landscape and weakened the performance of official agencies. He stressed that security cannot be built piecemeal and that achieving it requires a strong political will that recognizes its sanctity and bears its responsibility.
A Vision for Reforming the Security Sector
He stressed the adoption of an integrated vision that confines weapons to state institutions governed by law, enhances the integration of the police with the judiciary and defense, and lays a solid foundation for reforming and developing the security sector in a modern, professional manner, making it capable of protecting both the citizen and the state.
The Prestige of the State and the Rule of Law
Bashagha considered that restoring the standing of the police means restoring the standing of the state, as it is the primary symbol of its prestige and the guarantor of justice and the rule of law. He concluded by saluting the martyrs of the police and its members who carry out their mission for a “safe, dear, and unified Libya.”
