Benghazi – The Education Controller for Benghazi, Jumaa Belaid Al-Warfali, announced a joint operations room. It includes department heads and directors of educational service offices. The room will communicate directly with school principals. It will also assess schools affected by heavy rainfall and rising water levels.
Al-Warfali stated the operations room has been active since Saturday morning. It is identifying schools that are inaccessible due to blocked roads or flooding. He confirmed some institutions are in low-lying areas. Others are near major roads congested by rain. This poses a risk to traffic and student safety.
He clarified that tomorrow’s holiday will be limited. It will only apply to schools reported as difficult to access. This also includes schools in locations that could cause traffic jams or block public roads. He stressed there will be no general holiday for all schools in Benghazi. Closures will only be granted to affected institutions based on committee assessments.
Al-Warfali added this measure is based on expected weather developments. The current situation depends on the severity of the weather conditions.
He emphasized that the Education Monitoring office is closely following developments. If the severe weather continues or worsens, it will take further action. These decisions will ensure the safety of students and staff. This may include adjusting or expanding school closures if needed.
