Closure of Violating Hotels in Tripoli After Detection of Catastrophic Health and Environmental Conditions

Closure of Violating Hotels in Tripoli After Detection of Catastrophic Health and Environmental Conditions

Tripoli – The Tripoli Central Municipality conducted a large-scale inspection campaign targeting several hotels within its jurisdiction. The operation was supervised directly by members of the municipal council and the monitoring committee, headed by Abd al-Ati al-Sharif and Osama al-Ahmar. Inspectors and experts from the environmental sanitation department, officers from the Tripoli Central branch of the municipal guard, and other relevant security and regulatory agencies also took part.

The inspections led to the closure of multiple non-compliant hotels. Municipal authorities described the conditions as catastrophic. The hotels did not meet even the minimum standards for humane accommodation and lacked basic health and environmental requirements. Inspectors found widespread filth and piles of garbage, which pose a direct risk to public health and environmental safety in the capital.

The campaign also uncovered sites being used illegally and transformed into centers of chaos and neglect. Some were operating as shelters for undocumented migrants, prompting immediate and firm action in accordance with existing laws.

The municipality emphasized that the hands-on involvement of council members in these inspections demonstrates a commitment to direct field oversight, rather than relying solely on administrative procedures. Municipal officials stated that protecting residents’ health, dignity, and environmental safety is an uncompromising priority.
