The Government of National Unity, led by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, confirmed reports that the Presidential Council suspended Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush as it publicly rejected the suspension and ordered the Libyan top diplomat to continue her job as regularly.
Multiple Libyan media outlets reported on Saturday that Mangoush was suspended and placed under investigation by the Council over “”unilateral foreign policy decisions”.
In a statement released early Sunday morning, the Libyan government said “the Presidential Council does not have the legal right to appoint, cancel the appointment, suspend or investigate members of the executive authority because these constitute exclusive powers of the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity”.
The government affirmed that it stands by the foreign minister and commended the work efforts she made so far.
