Al-Kufra – Ulrika Richardson, the UN Secretary-General’s Deputy Special Representative in Libya, met Sunday with local authorities and executive officials in the city of Al-Kufra. The talks focused on the humanitarian situation, support for public services, and strengthening international cooperation.
Richardson’s meetings included medics, local officials, and leaders from the Al-Kufra branch of the Anti-Illegal Migration Authority. The discussions centered on three main points: humanitarian issues, including the status and needs of displaced people and facilitating the work of aid organizations; infrastructure needs, especially in health, education, and water sectors; and ways to boost coordination between UN agencies and local municipalities to support field response efforts.
These meetings are part of the UN mission’s ongoing efforts to maintain direct communication with Libyan municipalities and address challenges in remote and border regions.
The visit was arranged with guidance from Major General Dr. Mbarek Mustafa Bouharara, head of the Anti-Illegal Migration Authority, and in coordination with the director of the authority’s branches in central and southeastern Libya.
Upon arrival, the UN delegation was received by Brigadier Rashid Al-Sharif, director of the Al-Kufra branch of the Anti-Illegal Migration Authority, along with the mayors of Al-Kufra and Al-Jawf Al-Gharbi, and a number of local leaders and officials.
Brigadier Al-Sharif, during the meetings, emphasized the ongoing importance of coordination and cooperation with international organizations and local authorities. He stated that this collaboration serves the public interest and helps address humanitarian and migration issues in accordance with current regulations and procedures.
