Tripoli – A national workshop aimed at supporting the endorsement of the Agricultural Statistics Master Plan (ASMP) concluded Wednesday in the capital. The workshop, organized by the GNU Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in partnership with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), also reviewed the agricultural census questionnaire. Its goal was to train national staff and to develop the agricultural statistics system according to the latest international standards.
GNU Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Abdel Latif Mohamed Al-Taher stressed, at the closing ceremony, the importance of building a reliable agricultural database. He said this would support decision-making and the planning of development initiatives, which in turn help to improve the agricultural sector and achieve sustainable development in Libya.
He added that modernizing the agricultural statistics system is essential for better planning and increasing the effectiveness of programs and projects. Accurate, comprehensive data will support authorities in policy-making and evidence-based decisions.
The workshop ran for two weeks and included training on modern electronic data collection and analysis technologies in line with international statistical systems. The first phase of the training program involved 32 participants from eastern, central, southern, and western regions, reflecting the ministry’s commitment to nationwide capacity building and experience sharing.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, the General Director of the Documentation and Information Center, experts, specialists, and representatives of the FAO. Participants praised the training program’s role in strengthening agricultural statistics and improving institutional performance.
At the end of the ceremony, the Minister, along with the Director of the Documentation and Information Center and FAO representatives, distributed certificates to the trainees. This was in recognition of their efforts and to encourage continued work on developing Libya’s national agricultural statistics system.
