Benghazi – Al-Himam Al-Aliya Foundation organized a workshop today. It was held in cooperation with the “Mumkin” organization. The event took place at the Libyan News Agency’s training hall. The workshop’s title was “Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Laws Governing Electoral Processes.” This was part of the “Full Access.. Full Participation” project. Many persons with disabilities attended. Advocates for their causes also participated.
Asmaa Fadlallah Mansour is the Chairwoman of Al-Himam Al-Aliya Foundation. She told the Libyan News Agency that the workshop aims to raise community awareness. It focuses on the rights of persons with disabilities. The goal is to empower them for full and fair participation in elections. Mansour stated these issues are not just humanitarian. They represent social justice and inherent rights. These rights must be protected and respected.
She added that the workshop provided a platform for experience exchange. It also unified efforts between official institutions and civil society organizations. Participants gained an understanding of their political rights. They learned about mechanisms for participation. This knowledge aligns with the laws governing the electoral process.
Mahmoud Al-Saiti and Hassan Al-Sharif gave presentations. They are from the High National Elections Commission. Their presentations covered the legal framework. They also discussed mechanisms to adapt the electoral process. This adaptation ensures suitability for persons with disabilities. The workshop emphasized guaranteeing comprehensive access. It aimed to promote barrier-free participation.
Mansour concluded by stressing the importance of continuing these activities. Such efforts promote the rights of persons with disabilities. They ensure a more just and cohesive society.
