Tripoli – The Director-General of the National Center for Disease Control, Haider Al-Sayeh, held a meeting with a delegation from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), led by the Director of the North Africa Region, Wissam Mankoula. The meeting was attended by the Center’s Deputy Director and a number of directors of specialized departments and offices.
Areas of Cooperation
The meeting focused on discussing upcoming activities and strengthening cooperation between the two sides in support of public health initiatives in Libya and North Africa. A number of important files were reviewed, most notably:
* Continued support for the triple elimination initiative for viral hepatitis, HIV, and syphilis in Libya.
* Preparing to hold the regional meeting on the “Saving Lives and Livelihoods” initiative in early October in Libya, in collaboration with UNICEF.
* The selection of Libya’s National Center for Disease Control as a center of excellence in North Africa, in recognition of its efforts and capabilities in the field of public health at the regional level.
Affirming the Partnership
The attendees emphasized the importance of cooperation between the National Center and its African counterpart in addressing health challenges both inside and outside Libya, stressing the commitment of both parties to working together to improve health outcomes and support vulnerable groups on the African continent.
