Libyan Government Calls for Urgent National Dialogue to Form Unified Consensus Government

Thursday, March 5, 2026 National 2 Mins Read
Libyan Government

Benghazi – The Libyan government has called for the immediate launch of a comprehensive and serious national dialogue aimed at unifying the executive authority and forming a unified government. This body would lead the country toward completing constitutional and electoral requirements, ensuring the restoration of stability and an end to political division.

In an official statement, the government emphasized that Libya is traversing a critical phase where economic challenges are intertwined with political complexities. These factors have directly impacted state stability and institutional performance, leading to continued division and the stalling of constitutional and executive paths, which threatens national unity and undermines opportunities for growth and stability.

The statement explained that the continued presence of the expired mandate government has led to the depletion of public funds and the entrenchment of financial and administrative corruption. These factors have contributed to deepening institutional divisions and have negatively impacted the interests of citizens across the country.

The statement further noted that the current stage imposes a historical responsibility requiring the abandonment of narrow calculations and a commitment to a sincere national spirit. Such an approach aims to restore the state’s prestige and institutional unity while safeguarding the dignity and rights of Libyan citizens.

The Libyan government stressed that unifying the executive authority represents the genuine entry point for ending division, consolidating financial and economic stability, and restoring citizen confidence in state institutions. It underscored the necessity of forming a consensus government with clear tasks and powers, operating within a specific timeframe to unify state institutions and create the conditions necessary for holding free and fair elections that reflect the will of the Libyan people.

The government concluded its statement by affirming that the Libyan people look forward to practical steps reflecting the magnitude of the challenges and a solid political will that places Libya’s interest above all considerations, paving the way for a new phase defined by unity, the rule of law, and recourse to the ballot box.
