An expanded meeting was held today at the headquarters of the Man-Made River Authority in Benghazi to discuss a strategic proposal to supply water to 20,000 residential units and other vital projects in the western Benghazi area.
The meeting included key figures, led by the Chairman of the Man-Made River Authority’s Management Board, Dr. Saad Boumatari, alongside the general managers of the authority’s systems, and representatives from the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund. Representatives from the Turkish company “Jawahir,” the contractor responsible for the fund’s projects, were also in attendance.
During the meeting, Dr. Boumatari emphasized the importance of close cooperation between the River Authority and the Reconstruction Fund to achieve this goal. He explained that supplying the area with water could be accomplished via the western route of the river network without negatively impacting the eastern route’s supply. Dr. Boumatari proposed a technical solution to implement the proposal, which involves establishing a new dual pumping station and a pressure-breaking tank to ensure a stable and efficient supply.
The meeting resulted in an immediate agreement to form a joint technical working group comprising experts from the Man-Made River Authority and the Reconstruction Fund. The team, leveraging the expertise of the Authority’s consulting company, ANE, will urgently study all technical and hydraulic aspects of the proposal and is expected to submit its reports and findings as soon as possible to pave the way for implementation.
