Central and eastern regions of the Mediterranean are experiencing unstable weather conditions due to the development of the Mediterranean storm “Agnetta.” The storm is centered south of Italy, accompanied by low atmospheric pressure and active winds around its core, and it continues to move gradually eastward.
Fares Fathi, Director of the Geographic and Environmental Systems Department at the Ministry of Environment, told Al-Anbaa Libya newspaper that the storm has caused weather disturbances in several areas of southern Italy. These include strong winds and high sea waves. The storm’s impact has also reached parts of Greece, especially the island of Rhodes, where heavy rainfall led to water accumulation, local flooding, and road closures.
Fathi explained that the possible effects of the storm on Libya are expected to focus on increased winds and disturbed sea conditions, particularly along the northern coast and maritime areas. He noted that current data does not indicate a direct or severe impact on the country’s inland regions.
He stressed the importance of closely monitoring the storm’s movement and developments in the coming hours, especially regarding wind speeds and wave heights. Fathi urged continued attention to official weather updates and advisories concerning the storm’s approach to Libyan coasts.
