Salem Al-Qunaidi, a member of Libyan Parliament, revealed that Sunday’s meeting of Libyan MPs in Tripoli is “unofficial”.
He said that the purpose of the meeting is to “unify opinions” regarding the parliament’s selection of a new prime minister that would replace Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh.
Libya’s Parliament declared Dbeibeh’s government illegitimate after its UN-backed mandate expired on December 24 last year.
The Parliament opened the door for premiership candidates to nominate themselves ahead of selecting a new premier on Tuesday, February 7.
Al-Qunaidi said that lawmakers would assess the candidates and their programs during a hearing on Monday.
