Benghazi – The Ministry of Electricity of the Libyan Government announced a power cut on Saturday. Service was disconnected from large areas in Benghazi. This was a precautionary measure to ensure citizen safety.
The ministry explained the outage was due to severe damage. The electrical grid was affected by recent weather fluctuations and strong winds in the eastern region.
It noted that its specialized teams took emergency measures. They acted to protect equipment and ensure public safety. This followed rising water levels in residential areas and main streets in several eastern Libyan cities.
The severe weather led to the shutdown of four stations in the Old Al-Kish area due to water leaks. Several feeder stations were also disconnected as a precaution. This resulted in power outages across large parts of Benghazi.
The ministry also stated that fallen high-voltage tower wires caused outages in several areas, notably the Budzira district.
The ministry apologized to citizens for the sudden failures. It urged them to be patient. Emergency and maintenance teams are working around the clock to restore electricity as soon as possible.
