General Saddam Haftar has strongly condemned recent remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Libya and its people, describing the statements as offensive, unacceptable, and entirely reprehensible.
In an official statement, General Haftar asserted that domestic political considerations and electoral debates can never serve as a justification for insulting nations or undermining the dignity of their people.
“Libya is an independent, sovereign state, and its national dignity is above all considerations,” Haftar stated. “We cannot accept our nation being subjected to offense or belittlement under any circumstances or political pretext.”
In response to the remarks, Haftar called for a clear and decisive official stance. He urged the relevant Libyan authorities, each within their respective jurisdictions, to initiate immediate measures in accordance with established diplomatic norms and rules. Specifically, he called for delivering a formal protest to the United States and demanding that the offense be addressed in a manner commensurate with its gravity.
Despite the firm rebuke, Haftar concluded by reiterating Libya’s commitment to maintaining cooperative and friendly relations with the United States. However, he emphasized that such ties cannot be separated from adherence to mutual respect, which remains the unwavering foundation of Libya’s relations with all nations.
