Member of the Tripoli-based State Council, Abdul Salam Al-Safrani, commended the House of Representatives’ amendment to the draft constitutional document, describing it as “a step towards reviving the political process and getting the country out of its crisis.”
Al-Safrani stressed that the will of the House of Representatives and the Council of State is the motive behind their recent moves to end the political crisis.
He pointed out that there is a local and foreign rejection that impedes the issue of the constitution, and ruled out the possibility of reaching a constitution now, even with a new political dialogue committee, “as the House of Representatives and the SC were previously unable to reach that.”
He described the UN envoy Abdoulaye Bathily’s moves as weak, and said: “It proved that the UN mission does not have the vision to push the House of Representatives and the SC to take real steps to end the crisis in the political scene.”
