The Board of the High National Elections Commission affirmed on Sunday that the Commission is fully prepared to hold the elections as soon as the necessary technical and legal conditions are met.
In a statement, the Board stressed its commitment to its declared role of managing and organizing the electoral process in accordance with the highest standards of integrity and transparency.
It clarified that the Commission is committed to implementing the electoral laws issued by the House of Representatives, as stipulated in the Constitutional Declaration, and that it is not a party to any political disputes over these laws or their provisions.
The Commission’s Board urged against dragging the Commission into political wrangling or holding it responsible for the stalled political process.
The statement noted that the Commission had previously affirmed its technical and logistical capacity to hold elections on time, considering proposals to postpone the vote until 2026 or link it to further amendments as an infringement on the democratic transition path and the will of the voters.
The Board emphasized that the United Nations clearly supports holding elections according to the approved laws, calling on all parties to prioritize the national interest and provide a suitable environment for holding the elections, rather than entering into new debates about amending the laws.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the Commission’s operational and technical readiness and its ongoing cooperation with local and international partners to ensure free and fair presidential and parliamentary elections that will renew the legitimacy of institutions and restore stability to the country.
