Tetteh stresses the importance of the Commission’s role during her visit to polling centres in Tripoli
Libya – UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General Hannah Tetteh, accompanied by her two deputies, visited three polling centres in Tripoli on Saturday to observe the progress of the electoral process in the municipalities and meet with HNEC staff and election observers.
Stephanie Khoury toured two polling centres in Tripoli Central and Al-Andalus municipalities, while Deputy Special Representative and Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs Ines Shuma visited a polling centre in Souq al-Juma’a municipality.
A message of support for the Commission’s efforts, Tetteh told the Commission’s staff and election observers: “What you are doing here today is important, I know you face significant operational and security challenges, but the Libyan people have the right to choose their leaders through peaceful, credible and inclusive elections – every step towards this goal is important.”
