The Afriqiyah Airways Employees’ Movement issued a statement on Saturday, numbered (7), revealing an unprecedented deterioration in the company’s financial and administrative performance. It warned against the continuation of what it described as “serious violations” that threaten the survival of this national institution and called on the Attorney General and the Prime Minister to intervene urgently to stop them
The movement affirmed its rejection of any new postponement of the company’s General Assembly meeting scheduled for October 13th, or the reappointment of the current board of directors whose term has expired, noting that its tenure witnessed a sharp decline in operational and financial performance.
The statement explained that the employees had submitted official memorandums to the Minister of Transportation and the Chairman of the Board of the Aviation Holding Company demanding the appointment of a new board of directors composed of national talents. However, there are indications of an intention to extend the term of the current chairman despite financial and administrative suspicions under investigation by the Attorney General and regulatory authorities.
The statement pointed to one of the most serious violations: contracting with an insurance company that does not meet the technical and legal requirements. This is based on official correspondence from the Insurance Supervision Authority dated July, August, and September 2025, which confirmed that the issued insurance policies are invalid and do not provide any real insurance coverage.
The movement added that the company’s management continued to operate flights without valid insurance coverage for more than three months, in clear violation of civil aviation laws. This exposes the safety of passengers and the Libyan state to grave risks, with potential claims and compensations that could exceed $700 million in the event of an accident, in addition to the disbursement of sums exceeding 4.6 million Libyan dinars to the said insurance company.
The statement held the Chairman of the Board of Directors and the company’s General Manager legally responsible for signing these contracts, calling on the Attorney General to open an urgent investigation and take legal action against those involved in these transgressions, which, according to the statement, constitute crimes of damaging public funds, endangering citizens’ safety, and abuse of power.
The movement concluded its statement by emphasizing that the employees’ action stems from national concern and the public interest, and that they will resort to all legal means, including a peaceful strike, if the General Assembly is postponed or the current board is reappointed. They stressed that their goal is to save the national company from collapse and restore it to its rightful place.
