Benghazi – The Bee Development and Improvement Authority met Monday with the National Development Agency to discuss joint cooperation in planting trees and plants that benefit bees and establishing nectar reserves to improve bee grazing areas. The goal is to support the sector and boost production.
According to a statement on the authority’s official page, the meeting brought together Ibrahim Faraj Al-Farjani, director general of the Bee Development and Improvement Authority, and Abdul Basit Al-Badri, head of the agricultural team at the National Development Agency. They discussed the importance of expanding the cultivation of nectar-rich trees suitable for Libya’s environment, especially sidr, acacia, carob, and eucalyptus.
The two sides considered establishing nectar reserves within agricultural and development projects. These reserves would provide sustainable sources of nectar and pollen, support beekeepers in various regions, and help protect the country’s plant cover from degradation and overgrazing.
Both sides agreed to hold a larger meeting between their management teams to set priorities and choose locations for planting nectar-rich trees. They also plan to discuss ways to implement joint projects that serve agricultural development and beekeeping.
The meeting also addressed the possibility of field visits to bee pastures to exchange expertise and learn about the needs of targeted areas.
