Khaled Al-Mishri, Chairman of Libya’s High Council of State, reiterated on Monday the importance of activating the constitutional process and allowing the Libyan people to vote on the draft constitution, according to a statement by the council.
This came during a meeting with Italy’s Special Envoy to Libya, Nicola Orlando, and the Italian Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, Buccino.
Al-Mishri explained to the Italian diplomats that “these steps are a prelude to holding free and fair elections based on sound consensual laws,” the council said.
He stated that any change of government must be made “in accordance with the constitutional declaration and the road map.”
For his part, Orlando affirmed his country’s “continued support for Libya to reach stability and peace.”
