Al-Nuwayri Condemns Surman Incidents and Calls for Accountability of Those Responsible

Benghazi – First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fawzi Al-Tahir Al-Nuwairi, has condemned the recent violence in the city of Surman. He emphasized the need for serious action to address the incidents, determine accountability, and implement measures to prevent them from recurring.

Al-Nuwairi, who represents Surman and serves as first deputy speaker, said he followed developments from the outset. He contacted the Surman municipal council, officials, and relevant parties to support efforts to contain the crisis, stop the clashes, and protect civilians from further harm.

He stressed that national responsibility requires wisdom and calm actions, rather than media statements. He noted that restoring calm does not mean the events can be overlooked, especially since armed clashes reached residential areas and put civilians and their property at risk.

Al-Nuwairi strongly condemned the armed confrontations and the resulting casualties and panic among residents. He described the incidents as violations of citizens’ rights to security and life, saying they undermine efforts to promote stability and the rule of law.

He held the Presidential Council nationally and politically responsible for taking clear positions and effective measures to protect citizens and maintain public safety. He also expressed surprise that the United Nations Support Mission in Libya had not issued a statement on the events, emphasizing that protecting civilians and supporting stability is a joint responsibility that requires serious action by all relevant national and international bodies.

Al-Nuwairi called on the people of Surman to act with wisdom and self-restraint and to reject anything that could fuel discord. He urged security and military authorities to fulfill their duty to impose order, protect civilians, and enforce the law.
