Tobruk – The Municipal Guard branch in Tobruk has announced the formation of a joint field committee to remove violations on water lines and networks. The effort is coordinated with the Tobruk municipality, the Water and Sewerage Company, and security agencies. It is part of measures to address the ongoing water crisis in the city.
The committee will identify illegal connections to the main water network and take necessary steps to remove these violations. The goal is to reduce water loss, improve the efficiency of the distribution network, and ensure fairer access to water for residents.
According to officials, Tobruk’s water crisis has persisted for about six months. The main desalination plant has been undergoing maintenance, while illegal use and deteriorating parts of the distribution network have worsened the problem. This has led to reduced water supplies and increased water tanker prices, reaching approximately 250 dinars per tanker.
Local authorities have also taken several steps to ease the crisis. These include restarting the desalination plants in Hayy al-Dubbat and Hayy al-Nasr neighborhoods and completing maintenance at the Hurriya plant and the water company. The water company has also been required to draft a new water distribution plan and ensure its implementation.
