The mayor of Misrata has issued a decision to establish a municipal branch in Tawergha under his municipality, despite rulings by the Tripoli, Benghazi and Al-Bayda Courts of Appeal to stop the move, according to Jaballah al-Shibani, who expects the matter to be resolved in the coming days.
Sheibani explained in a Facebook post that the decision caused disruption of citizens’ interests and confused the relationship between the municipality and the relevant ministries, noting that a committee was formed by the Misrata municipality to seize medical equipment belonging to the Tawergha municipality and put pressure on sector heads to hand it over without legal justification.
Al-Shaibani stressed that Misrata municipality has sufficient resources and does not need this equipment, while Tawergha is still seeking to recover after the extensive damage it suffered.
These actions put the mayor of Misrata municipality in direct confrontation with the judiciary, he said, noting that the government support he is currently receiving is temporary and will not last long.
