Member of the House of Representatives Jaballah Al-Shibani said that the events of the February 17, 2011 revolution were necessary, but its results were counterproductive, a conviction shared by many.
He explained that while everyone supports popular uprisings to demand rights and improve living conditions, what he described as “embracing Sarkozy and Macron and applauding NATO,” which affected the military and civil infrastructure, along with arrogance, refusal to acknowledge the scale of the disaster, and underestimating people’s intelligence, puts him at odds with many. He stressed that this is his conviction, one he is willing to stand for alone.
Al-Shibani noted that acknowledging the scale of the calamity and working together to fix the flaws is the beginning of true national reconciliation.
He also indicated that the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, deliberately embarrasses representatives who are committed to attending sessions, stressing that the Council represents the “balancing force” that includes all villages, rural areas, and cities of Libya, a symbol of its unity despite its flaws.
Al-Shibani added that the representatives coming from the western region to the east hold a political stance, stressing that the East is not Tel Aviv, and that Dbeibeh’s criticisms are minor compared to the era of chaos, evasion, and unpatriotism, for which there is ample evidence.
The representative noted the danger of these practices continuing against his colleague, Representative Salem Gnan, who shares a conviction similar to that of many other representatives.
