Tripoli – The Anti-Counterfeiting and Forgery Department of the Criminal Investigation Agency arrested a suspect. The suspect claimed he could register citizens for the 2025 Hajj lists. This was in exchange for money.
The agency stated through its media office that the department referred a complaint. Seven citizens filed this complaint against the suspect. The suspect had claimed to work for the General Authority for Hajj. He promised to include their names on Hajj pilgrim lists. This was in exchange for financial sums. The total amount was 27,750 dinars. This sum was purportedly for visas and special Hajj procedures.
The agency explained that investigations and inquiries proved the suspect was not affiliated with the General Authority for Hajj. He confessed during interrogations to taking the money for himself. He had no actual ability to add names to the lists. The suspect exploited his kinship with an official within the authority. He intended to use this connection to attempt to include the complainants’ names. However, he did not succeed.
The Criminal Investigation Agency confirmed the suspect’s arrest and detention. The incident report was referred to the Investigations and Review Department. This is a prelude to forwarding it to the Public Prosecution. Necessary legal actions will then be taken.
