Italian ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Buccino, and Resident Representative of the UN Development Program (UNDP) in Libya, Marc-André Franche, agreed on Wednesday in Tripoli to extend partnership to support free and fair elections as the only path forward to resolve the political stalemate, according UNDP in Libya.

This morning, the Ocean Viking rescued 84 people, including 58 unaccompanied minors, who were on an overcrowded rubber dinghy in international waters off the coast of Libya.

UN Envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, said he met Monday with France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, “to discuss political and security developments in Libya and the necessity for supporting a Libyan-Libyan process to facilitate inclusive, transparent elections in 2023.”

Islamist politician Abdelhakim Belhaj believes that the solution to end the political deadlock in Libya is to hold parliamentary  elections first, followed by presidential elections, as opposed to holding them both simultaneously as per the U.N. peace plan.

The Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU), led by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, sent on Saturday tons of aid materials containing medicines and foodstuffs to both Syria and Turkey, to support the people affected by the earthquake that struck the two countries last Monday.
