Conviction of 8 employees at Al-Wahda Bank – Al-Sawani on charges of misappropriating public funds

Wednesday, December 24, 2025 National 1 Min Read
Public Prosecution detains local officials in Al-Bayda on charges of squandering funds of "Daniel" disaster victims.

The Tripoli Criminal Court convicted eight employees. They worked at Al-Wahda Bank, Al-Sawani branch. The charge was misappropriating public funds.

The Anti-Corruption Prosecution detailed the incident and indictment procedures. This falls within the jurisdiction of the Tripoli Court of Appeal. The prosecution addressed the defendants’ seizure of public funds. These funds were entered into a cycle of internal transfers. This facilitated the misappropriation. The indictment authority referred them to the Tripoli Court of Appeal. The court convicted them in its last session.

The court sentenced the first and second defendants to six years in prison. They were fined 997,207 dinars. They were also ordered to repay 489,603 dinars.

The court sentenced the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth defendants. They received three years and one month in prison. The seventh and eighth defendants were convicted in absentia. They were sentenced to four years in prison.
