Benghazi – The Crisis Committee for Southern Region Municipalities held its first meeting in Benghazi, led by Deputy Prime Minister and committee head Ahmed Houma. The meeting focused on reviewing the committee’s recent fieldwork and the needs of affected municipalities.
Attendees included Local Government Minister and committee member Sami Al-Dawawi, Water Resources Minister Mohamed Douma, Education Minister Jumaa Al-Jadeed, Army General Command representative Brigadier General Omar Abdulmawla Halloum, Health Ministry representative Dr. Abdelhamid Al-Takhtash, Finance Ministry representative Adel Noah Al-Badri, and Electricity Sector representative Engineer Abdelati Al-Aqeeb.
The committee discussed the results of their recent inspection tour of several southern municipalities. The visit aimed to assess public services and identify damage and urgent needs, particularly in areas hit by heavy rains and floods.
Minister Al-Dawawi stated that the field visits led to identifying several urgent priorities. These include repairing electricity, water, and sewage networks, drilling new wells, providing service companies with equipment, supplying fire engines, and preparing civil protection headquarters.
The meeting also addressed how to handle the field-assessed issues, prioritize them, and prepare to take the necessary actions. The goal is to move from identifying needs to resolving the most urgent problems.
This meeting marks the committee’s ongoing efforts to continue its field follow-up and to turn the on-site assessments into actionable projects, in line with established roles and procedures.
