The Libyan outgoing Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, confirmed Wednesday that signing the gas agreement with the Italian energy company Eni came after lengthy negotiations in which Libya’s interest was supreme in all rounds.
Dbeibeh explained that what happened was a reactivation of an agreement previously signed in 2008, indicating that the project would pump investments in Libya estimated at $8 billion.
“Libya is in dire need to reactivate and develop gas projects urgently, because official data confirm that delaying the agreement causes a shortage of gas production, he added, during the 2023 second meeting of his government cabinet, held in al-Jemeil town, west of Tripoli.
