The Libyan outgoing Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh said that he does not care about the opinion of the countries that opposed the signing of the hydrocarbons agreement with Turkey, pointing out that he is primarily interested in making the Libyan people understand the reality of what he is doing.
In his speech regarding the hydrocarbons deal signed with the Turkey, Dbeibeh explained that it must be noted that the explanation of the terms of the agreement is not a matter of justification, but rather to deliver the correct information to the Libyans, free of rumors and disinformation.
He added that the agreement is not a product of the moment, but is the result of a continuous effort based on diligence and deliberation and an attempt to avoid making any mistake that causes harm to the interest of the Libyan people.
He continued, “We have answered all the questions posed by the Ministry of Oil regarding the terms of the agreement.”
The outgoing Premier said that his government has the right to sign any memorandum of understanding with any country within the framework of exchanging common interests and benefits to serve the interests of the two countries and Libya first.
Dbeibeh pointed out that the world’s demand for oil and gas increased after the war on Ukraine, and this is a golden opportunity that must be exploited.
He continued: “Libya is a source of oil and gas, on which it is necessary to contract with companies and conclude contracts and projects to discover, produce and sell gas and oil within Libyan territory.”
He added: “We have a dispute with some countries, and there is a joint committee and courts regarding the territorial waters between Libya and Crete. We will not give up our right to satisfy other countries.”
“Homeland is above any consideration. We will not give up Libya’s share to other countries, and all of these reasons prompted us to sign the agreement, to restore the rights of Libyans and to defend sovereignty,” he added.
